I had a visitor last night,
He clung to the shadows and shied away from the light.

At first I was a little shocked,
for one does not expect this but all He did was laugh and mock.

As I looked around the room,
and my eyes searched and probed the gloom,
I felt the ice cold grip of the dead on my shoulder
And I lay there paralysed and in terror as the room grew colder.

And that night I shall never forget
And that cold, cruel stranger whom I had the misfortune to have met.

I don't know about you guys but I just love a good ghost story, whether it is like that of the film The Frighteners (1996 starring Michael J. Fox) or tales of terror and the paranormal. Being scared, fearing to look over you shoulder, getting goosebumps and feeling a cold shudder run down your spine. I believe there are ghost out there, regardless of whether they are just a natural recording in the Earths atmosphere or if they are poor souls who have lost there way, possibly they seek forgiveness or revenge for a dastardly deed. I love the feeling of being truly terrified, seeing something out of the corner of your eye, feeling that cold feather light touch that to this day your still not sure if you really felt it. The amount of times I've felt a shudder run down my spine (the one that people say you get because someone just walked on your grave). I don't know about you guys but I love that.

Hehe... a poetic ghost story. Very typical of you =p
I like how the first line is so ordinary for a poem about terrifying ghosts.

I think ';paralysed and in terror' might sound better as just ';paralysed in terror'

Eyes probing? Weird, but cool.

I also love ghost stories! :D Nice poem!
The way you describe the visitor - I would thought it's a vampire and not a ghost.

Thanks :). And thats actually a very good point. I suppose he could be a vampire, but the room growing colder is always a sure sign of a ghost. I can't really help what I write at night (or so it seems). Also vampires are far more sinister in their approach and tend not to make it obvious that they are there. They like to stay hidden

Yep! I just  ghosts. Thanks, I like it when poems have a twist and, even though its right at the beginning, I thought that I would give it a go.

Probably but I was trying to lengthen the verse to keep the pattern going.

I like it when actions are turned into something a bit more.

I think that when a vampire is in the room it can grow a bit colder too.
I'm reading Vampire Chronicles from Anne Rice so if you want to know something about vampires just ask me ^^

Particuarly probing? ;p
